Department Functions

In Hampton County, the Register of Deeds office is housed in the Clerk of Court's office. The Clerk of Court is responsible for recording all documents that concern land transactions. Some of these include Deeds or Titles, Mortgages, Satisfactions, Plats or Surveys, Agreements, Charters and Mergers. State and federal tax liens and Mechanic’s liens are also recorded in this office. One of the largest responsibilities for the Clerk of Court is to determine if the document is in recordable form. We are responsible for collecting the proper fees for these documents and reporting all revenue on a monthly basis.
