[ARCHIVED] Larger helicopter with increased lift capabilities

Air Methods and its partnership with Hampton County has upgraded our aircraft to a larger unit with increased lift capabilities. This allows us to lift far heavier loads than the previous aircraft.  “Big Bird” went into service on Thursday, March 22 in Hampton County. The pilots and mechanics went through the required training for operations of this unit. The unit was not here long before it transported its first patient and has been a busy aircraft since. The base manager stated that last month, Life Net Four located here in Hampton, was its busiest base in the state.

Thanks to Hampton County Council and Administration, Hampton County residents that use the service will only have their insurance billed and will not be responsible for any amounts out-of-pocket above that.  The first 6 months of data shows that it has saved county residents slightly over two million dollars in out-of-pocket monies; which is the money you would pay after insurance costs. This is accomplished through the partnership and membership between Hampton County and Air Methods.

It is through programs like this that Hampton County residents have access to critical care hospitals in the low country with most cases arriving at those facilities in less than an hour from the 911 call. For trauma, stroke and heart attacks, time is critical and the rapid arrival at these facilities are producing great patient outcomes with more patients surviving and returning to a normal life.
